Featuring sound system master Dennis Bovell
First reissue of this 1976 UK roots rarity
Formed in 1971, Matumbi were among the earliest and finest British reggae bands. However, they also recorded under different names, including The 4th Street Orchestra. In their highly acclaimed Rough Guide to Reggae, Steve Barrow and Peter Dalton ranked this album (and its counterpart Leggo! Ah-Fi-We-Dis) as "the finest showcase for Matumbi's talents." This release is the first LP re-release of this true British roots monument since 1976.

Founding member Dennis 'Blackbeard' Bovell (of LKJ and Dub Band fame) knew the local soundsystem scene like the back of his hand, and most of the tracks on Ah Who Seh? Go Deh! were originally cut as exclusive "specials" for his own Jah Sufferer sound system and for other Soundmen. Hardly anyone who heard these tracks at reggae parties would have guessed that they were not from Kingston but were recorded in London. And neither did many who bought the records when they were released a few years later. It's hardly surprising, given that the material Bovell & Co. put out easily rivaled the heaviest output of their Jamaican counterparts. A great version of the 1970 Kingstonians hit "Singer Man" is the most popular track here. But it's the band's standout, heavyweight roots tunes like "Jah Chase Dem" or "Za-Ion," versions of which pop up later in true Sound System fashion for maximum impact that will make reggae fans sit up and take notice
