The Toddla T Sound's Kensal Road EP is a vibrantly eclectic release, mixing the old with the new, and featuring the musical input of acclaimed lyricists and producers from Jamaica and the UK. Propellah – lead track off the EP, produced by Toddla T and Jus Now – is a heavy-hitting, bass-driven track, with punchy vocals by accomplished lyricist Serocee, whose bars flow seamlessly over an infectious beat. With sharp delivery and clever word play throughout - plus a hook which sticks in your head for all the right reasons - Propellah sees a vocal performance from Serocee which is the perfect accompaniment to a beat that demands the attention of your feet and ears from the word go. The Kensal Road EP also sees long-time friends Toddla T and The 2 Bears go head to head on the quietly menacing "Big Tune A Drop", featuring the baritone rumblings of Kingston’s own Mr Lexx, recorded by Toddla on a recent trip to Jamaica. With squelching synths and warped electronics wrapped around a stripped back techno beat, this track isn’t easily defined but will undoubtedly do damage on the floor. "Walkin" takes the tempo down, as Toddla collaborates with Jamaican group Suns of Dub to produce a hypnotic track with a vocal lament which complements the emotive melodies of the horns – also recorded by Toddla in Jamaica. Adis Pablo is the Melodica player in the group, and as this performance shows, he takes after his Father, seminal Jamaican musical figure Augustus Pablo. The EP also features a remix of a classic Tenor Fly track from Toddla T and Girls Music family member Melé. "Rude Boy Talk" was originally released on legendary UK label Fashion Records, and this remix sees Toddla and Melé taking the parts and doing what they do best…making a dancefloor heater. Colourful and diverse, this EP is full of vitality, a testament to the creativity of all the artists who contributed to it.
